Giving wedding gifts is long-standing tradition among wedding guests. Instead of forcing your loved ones to guess what you need, setting up a gift registry is appropriate to provide them a guideline of what you can actually use. Unfortunately, driving to all your favorite stores and walking around scanning items is a time-consuming process. Now, if you have a reliable internet connection and a little time on your hands, you can create most of your wedding registries online.

  • Choose your stores. Set up your wedding registries at stores you like and that are accessible to family and friends.
  • Figure out what you need. You wedding registry is your chance to get the items you need to set up your new life with your husband.
  • Complete your registry checklist. Although you may not need everything listed, you can get a good idea of what others register for and in what quantities.
  • Visit the company’s website where you would like to register. Enter your information and the information of your finance. This should include the wedding date and a password you can both remember.
  • Register for gifts. Search for items just as you would when shopping online. Make sure to change the quantity selected to reflect how many you need. For example, do you have use of a single wine glass?
  • Enter your shipping address. Decide where you want your gifts to be shipped. This can be the home you’ll share as newlyweds or a parent’s house, if you’re in the process of moving.
  • Review your registry. Even though you can alter or update it any time, you cannot change what people purchase. Make sure you want a toaster in the shape of a rooster before you put it on your registry.

Tips

  • Visit the store as time permits to check the quality of items. This is important if you need to decide between multiple brands of the same item.
  • Register for more gifts than invited guests to allow them maximum choice of what to purchase. Besides, you may get a discount on your own purchase from the registry.
  • Set up as many registries as you like. Specialized registries, like honeymoon registries, are great for their specialty, but unlikely to provide enough selections for all of your guests to purchase.

Final Thought:

Never register for gifts in hopes of returning them for cash. At best, you’ll end up with store credit.
